A takeaway food shop, planned from a hand-drawn sketch
A shop owner sent me a layout drawn by hand on paper, with the main door in the W1 zone at the left corner. I placed my 16-zone grid over the sketch and we worked through it on the call. His report put the cash and takeaway counter just to the right of the entrance, kept the kitchen at the far right end, and kept the wash area at the far left clean and dry. The water sump sits in the North-East, there is one fixed place for the religious photo, and the whole shop follows a colour plan of about 60% reds and corals with 40% yellows and mustards.

How Commercial Space Design Affects Business Performance
How your commercial space is designed and laid out has a deep effect on the business. It shapes sales conversion, how many clients come in, how productive staff are and even how cash moves. None of this is random. It follows principles Vastu Shastra has recorded for centuries.
Think about what a customer sees as they walk in. The direction of the entrance sets the first impression. Where you put the cash counter or billing desk affects how money moves through the business. A cash counter in the southeast or north zone tends to support stronger finances.
Your team’s surroundings matter a great deal. In Vastu, staff who sit with their backs to the entrance feel a quiet sense of insecurity. They may take less initiative and feel more stressed. Turning their desks so they face north or east often makes a noticeable difference to morale.
Where the managing director sits is critical. In Vastu Shastra the southwest stands for authority and stability. Seating the key decision-maker in the southwest corner strengthens their standing as a leader. It is one of the first changes I suggest in most offices.

In Vastu Shastra, every commercial space can be mapped by direction. The map shows which business functions do well in which zones. The north governs new opportunities and winning clients. The southeast governs transactions and bringing in cash.
The northwest covers movement: staff retention, logistics and suppliers. When these zones are out of balance, a few problems tend to keep coming back. Cash stays tight even though revenue is good. Staff leave, and pay or culture doesn’t seem to be the reason.
Promising deals fall through at the last stage, again and again. Many owners can see that fixing operations alone is not breaking the pattern. Vastu imbalances in a commercial space build up over time. A blocked northeast zone, for example, brings a quiet but steady confusion into leadership decisions.

Commercial Vastu for Offices, Retail Spaces and Commercial Complexes
Commercial Vastu uses the same directional rules as home Vastu, but the needs are very different. A home needs stability and a nurturing feel. A business needs momentum, footfall and money coming in.
The Vastu Purusha Mandala maps these needs across a commercial property, zone by zone. The Ishan (northeast) zone governs opportunity and new business. Keep it open and uncluttered, because Vastu ties this zone to the quality of your leads and how much clients trust you. Never put heavy storage here.
In a shop, Agni (the southeast) is the zone for cash registers and payment terminals. Placed here, they sit on the fire element right where money changes hands, which supports stronger revenue. Nairutya, the southwest, anchors authority and stability.
That is where the owner’s cabin, the senior partner’s desk or the MD’s office belongs. There is a reason for it beyond tradition. The southwest is the heaviest earth zone in the grid. It gives the office a steady centre of weight that keeps the hierarchy and its decisions stable.
Vayu, the northwest, governs movement and suits stock you want to sell quickly. Display goods and product samples kept here tend to move faster. Every commercial assessment also includes a geopathic stress survey. Vastu practitioners associate spaces above underground water channels with friction among staff and uneven sales, so I flag them early.
The last layer of a full commercial Vastu assessment is Pancha Bhuta balance. Each of the five elements (earth, water, fire, air and space) should sit in its proper zone. Checking every layer is what makes the advice hold up once you put it into practice.

Vastu for shop: entrance, counter, stock and signboard
Short answer: in a shop I check four things before anything else. The entrance, where the cash counter sits, where the stock is kept, and which way the owner faces while selling. Most shops I see need two or three of these moved, not rebuilt.
- Entrance: I map the shutter or door against the 16 directions. A north or east entry is easy; a south-west entry is the one I treat first, with threshold and colour remedies rather than breaking the frame.
- Cash counter: the cash box or locker goes in the south-west part of the counter and opens towards the north, and the person at the counter faces north or east. - Stock: heavy, slow-moving stock sits in the south and west. Fast-moving goods go near the north-west, where things are meant to leave quickly.
- Signboard and lights: the board should be clean, lit and readable from the road. A broken letter or a dead tube light on the board is the cheapest fix and the one owners forget.
For a shop I work from a photo of the frontage, the layout with the counter marked, and a compass reading taken at the shutter looking in.
