Short answer: Sade sati is the roughly seven and a half years Saturn takes to cross the sign before your Moon sign, your Moon sign, and the sign after it. As of late 2026, with Saturn in Pisces, it runs for Aquarius, Pisces and Aries Moon. From 3 June 2027 it runs for Pisces, Aries and Taurus Moon.
What sade sati is
Saturn takes about two and a half years to cross one sign. Sade sati counts three of those signs around your natal Moon: the sign before it (the 12th from the Moon), the Moon’s own sign, and the sign after it (the 2nd). Three signs at roughly two and a half years each make about seven and a half years, which is all the name means.
It is counted from your Moon sign, your rashi, not from the Lagna and not from the Sun sign that Western astrology uses. Your kundli shows your Moon sign, and my kundli analysis page explains how I read the chart around it.
Saturn rules a direction as well as a stretch of years: the west. So during sade sati I ask what the west of your home holds, a study, a store room or a bedroom, since Saturn’s slow pressure has a place in the house too.

So for an Aquarius Moon, sade sati ends on 3 June 2027, comes back for about four months while Saturn returns to Pisces, and closes for good on 23 February 2028. For a Taurus Moon, the first phase starts on 3 June 2027, pauses from 20 October 2027 and resumes on 23 February 2028.
Dhaiya, the shorter stretch
When Saturn moves through the 4th or the 8th sign from your Moon, it is called dhaiya or small panoti, and it lasts about two and a half years. With Saturn in Pisces it applies to Sagittarius Moon (4th) and Leo Moon (8th). From 3 June 2027, with Saturn in Aries, it moves to Capricorn Moon (4th) and Virgo Moon (8th). What I suggest during sade sati
- Keep promises realistic. Saturn dislikes overcommitting.
- Be slow with speculative bets during the peak; prefer steady, documented choices.
- Hold a regular routine for work and sleep.
- Give on Saturdays to workers or elders, a traditional practice that also keeps you humble.

No. It is demanding, not doomed. Saturn asks for patience, discipline and honest effort, and people often look back on these years as the time they grew up. How heavy it feels depends on Saturn’s place in your own chart and on the dasha you are running.
