Kundli Analysis and Janam Kundali Reading: What I Read in Your Birth Chart

Short answer: A janam kundali is your birth chart, drawn from your date, time and place of birth. A kundli analysis is the reading of it: your Lagna, Moon and nakshatra, the dasha you are running, the house behind your question and this year’s transits. I do it with you on a 45-minute call for ₹1,499, with written remedies in 48 hours.

Any app can draw your kundli in a second. What it cannot do is listen to your question, see which period you are in and tell you what that means for the decision in front of you. That reading is what people mean by kundli analysis, and it is the work I do every day.

Janam kundali, kosthi, birth chart: one chart, many names

In Hindi it is the janam kundali or janam patrika. Bengali families call it the kosthi. In Tamil it is the jathagam, in Telugu the jatakam and in Kannada the jataka. In English it is the birth chart or natal chart. All of them are the same map of where the planets stood at the moment you were born, seen from the place you were born.

The chart can be drawn in the North Indian diamond style, the South Indian square or the East Indian style many Bengali families use. The planets do not change, only the drawing. How to find your rising sign on each style is explained on my lagna kundli page.

An app chart is a good way to get your birth details in order. Bring it along if you have one; I will recalculate anyway, so we start from the same positions.

The order I read a birth chart

  1. Lagna and its lord. The frame of the whole chart: temperament, body and where your effort goes.
  2. Moon sign and nakshatra. Your mind, and the starting point of the Vimshottari dashas. My pages on the moon sign and the 27 nakshatras go deeper.
  3. The running Mahadasha and Antardasha. What is active in your life right now. I explain how periods unfold on my dasha analysis page.
  4. The house behind your question. The 10th for work, the 7th for marriage, the 4th for home and property, the 5th for children and studies.
  5. Slow planets in transit. Saturn, Jupiter, Rahu and Ketu moving over these points this year.

The order matters. Most of the confusion people bring to me comes from reading one placement on its own, a Saturn here or a Rahu there, without the period they are running.

The houses also have a direction. The 1st house sits on the eastern horizon, the 10th points south, the 7th west and the 4th north, so a strained house in the chart often shows up as a troubled side of the home.

Where a gemstone genuinely suits your chart, I write its weight, metal and finger; my gemstone recommendation page explains how I decide. The same goes for a rudraksha, covered in rudraksha benefits. If a remedy does not suit your chart, I say so rather than add it to the list. I do not sell gemstones, yantras or pujas.

Questions a kundli analysis is often asked about

What a kundli cannot tell you

A kundli shows tendencies and timing. It cannot promise a date, a person or a salary, and I will not pretend it can. What it gives you is a clear picture of the period you are in, so your choices are made with open eyes. Health, money and legal matters stay with your doctor, adviser or lawyer; the chart can only help you see when to be careful.

Your kundli read against your floor plan

Most of what a kundli analysis tells you is about time: which period you are in and what it favours. It says nothing about the space you are living through that period in. When I read the chart and the home together, the remedies stop being general and start pointing at a particular wall or room.

A simple example: if your analysis shows Saturn mahadasha with the 4th house under strain, I would look at the west of the home, which Saturn rules, and at the north, which the 4th house points to. Clutter, leaks or a toilet there change what I suggest first. That combined reading is my Astro-Vastu consultation. If you only want the chart read for now, the kundli analysis is the right start.

Your kundli analysis is a 45-minute video call, online from anywhere in India or abroad, or in person at my Begur studio in Bengaluru, where I also work as an astrologer in Bangalore. The fee is a fixed ₹1,499 (all fees are on my pricing page), and your written remedies reach you within 48 hours. The session itself is described on my online astrology consultation page. Frequently Asked Questions

How is your kundli analysis different from a free kundli online?

A free tool draws the chart and lists the planets. It cannot listen to your question or tell you what your current period means for you. In a kundli analysis I read the chart with you, for your situation, and give remedies chosen for it.

Is a kundli analysis the same as kundli matching?

No. A kundli analysis reads one person’s chart for their own life and timing. Kundli matching compares two charts before marriage, including the guna points and much more than the points total. I do both, and each kundli is read as its own session.

What if I do not know my exact birth time?

Tell me what you know. Your Moon sign and the dasha you are running can usually still be read from the date and an approximate time. The Lagna and the houses need a reasonably accurate time, and I will tell you plainly where the reading is less certain.

Do I need a printed janam kundali for the session?

No. Your date, time and place of birth are enough, because I calculate the chart myself. If your family has an old printed or hand-written kundli, send a photo; comparing it with mine sometimes clears up a confusion about the birth time.

Can you analyse my child’s or partner’s kundli?

Yes. Each kundli is its own reading, so each person has their own session and their own written remedies. For a child, I focus on temperament, studies and the current period, not on fixed predictions. I explain what I look at in a child’s birth chart on a separate page.

In which language is the kundli analysis done?

The call can be in English, Hindi or Bengali, or a mix. The written remedies come in English, and if anything is unclear you can ask me about it on WhatsApp afterwards.
