What Mars in the 7th really shows
Before the word manglik enters the conversation, it is worth saying what Mars does here as a planet. Mars is courage, drive and decision. In the house of partnership it brings directness: you say what you mean, and you want a partner with backbone. People with this placement are often drawn to someone active, sporty, ambitious or in a field like engineering, defence, medicine or property. Arguments can flare quickly and settle just as quickly.

The cancellation checks I use
There are many cancellation rules in circulation, and they do not all carry equal weight. These are the ones I give real attention to.
- Mars in its own or exalted sign in the 7th: Aries, Scorpio or Capricorn.
- Both partners manglik, with Mars of similar strength in each chart. This is the most widely accepted cancellation.
- Jupiter aspecting or joining Mars, or aspecting the 7th house.
- Mars in the 7th in Cancer or Capricorn, which several regional texts treat as cancelled.
- Strong benefics in kendras and a well placed 7th lord and Venus.
The popular belief that the dosha ends at the age of 28 is not something I rely on. Mars matures around that age, which is a real classical idea, but it does not erase the placement.
Matching two charts when one has Mars in the 7th
In a match I do three things. I check whether the other chart has Mars in a comparable position. I compare the strength of Mars in both, not only its house. And I read the 7th house, Venus and the dasha of both people side by side, which matters far more than a yes or no on manglik. The points score from gun milan is useful, but it does not include Mars at all, which is why I treat manglik as a separate step in kundli matching.
If the dosha is present and not cancelled, I do not recommend expensive pujas or a “kumbh vivah” by default.
