Short answer: A business opening muhurat is the day and hour you first open the shutter, take the first sale or switch on a launch. I choose it from the weekday, tithi, nakshatra and rising sign, then test it against the owner’s birth chart. Unlike a wedding, an opening need not wait out Chaturmas. In 2027, Ugadi on 7 April, Akshaya Tritiya on 8 or 9 May and the days before Diwali on 29 October are the popular choices.
Which moment gets the muhurat?
People often ask me for “the” date, but a new business has several starts. The company may be registered in March, the lease signed in April and the doors opened in May. Each of these can be timed, and I treat them differently.
- Opening day. The pooja, the first customer, the first bill. This is the moment I care about most for a shop, clinic, salon or restaurant.
- Registration. Here the registrar’s working days come first, so I give a few workable options. I explain that on my business astrology page.
- Online launch. For a website, an app or a new product line, I time the hour it goes public, not the day the code was finished.
What the panchang has to show
- Weekday. Wednesday belongs to Mercury, the planet of trade and accounts. Thursday is Jupiter’s, good for advice, teaching and finance. Friday is Venus, which suits fashion, food and anything people buy for pleasure.
- Tithi. I skip the rikta tithis, the 4th, 9th and 14th, as well as Amavasya.
- Nakshatra. Pushya, Hasta, Ashwini, Chitra, Anuradha, Revati and Shravana are the stars I reach for when money is meant to move.
- Hour. Rahu kaal changes with the weekday and the city, and I keep the opening clear of it. For a shop you mean to run for years, I like a fixed sign rising.
The 2027 calendar for traders
Commerce follows the panchang less strictly than weddings do, so the closed seasons matter less here. A few dates still shape the year.
- 1 April: the new financial year. Many owners like to open their books fresh from this day.
- 7 April: Ugadi, the Kannada and Telugu new year, a well-loved day in Bengaluru to start new work.
- 8 or 9 May: Akshaya Tritiya, depending on your panchang.
- 3 June: Saturn enters Aries. It returns to Pisces on 20 October.
- 2 August: solar eclipse, visible in India. I keep openings well clear of it and its sutak.
- 29 October: Diwali, with Dhanteras just before it, when many traders do Lakshmi pooja and start new account books.
Some traders also avoid the two kharmas, around mid-December to mid-January and mid-March to mid-April. I treat them as a caution for openings rather than a strict ban, and decide from your chart. The rest of the year’s festivals are on shubh muhurat 2027.
Your chart carries more weight than the calendar
A good day for the city can still be a weak day for you. I check tara bala from your birth star and chandra bala from your Moon sign for the opening day. Then I look at the period you are running. If your 10th or 11th lord is active, the start has support behind it. If the chart says consolidate, I will tell you, and we may look at opening a little later instead of forcing a festival date.

The name and the space
Two other questions usually come up before an opening. The first is the name on the board, which I check against the owner’s numbers; I describe how in business name numerology.
