Short answer: Venus in the 7th house usually gives an attractive, warm partner, a pleasant social life and a strong wish to be married. Because Venus is the natural significator of marriage, some astrologers warn that it can spoil the house it signifies. In practice, its sign decides most of the result: in Taurus, Libra or Pisces it is usually excellent.
The planet of marriage in the house of marriage
Venus rules attraction, pleasure, art and comfort, and in every chart it stands for the spouse and married happiness. When it sits in the 7th, the house of the spouse, the two meanings sit on top of each other. Most of the time that is a happy result. People with this placement tend to be easy company, good at making others feel welcome, and keen on a shared home.
Venus has a corner of the home as well. Vastu gives it the south-east, the fire zone that usually holds the kitchen, so the comfort Venus promises in a marriage can be helped or strained by how that corner is kept.
The “karako bhava nashaya” debate
There is an old principle that a karaka placed in the house it signifies can harm that house. Venus in the 7th is the classic example quoted for it, and it is why some online readings warn of trouble. I take the rule seriously but not literally. The idea behind it is excess: too much of one theme in one place. So I ask two questions. Is Venus strong or weak by sign? And does anything else in the chart balance it? A dignified Venus with Jupiter’s support rarely behaves like the warning. A weak, afflicted Venus may show the issue as indulgence, high expectations, or a partner who is admired more than understood.
Venus in the 7th house by sign
Rather than twelve separate verdicts, it helps to group the signs by how comfortable Venus is in them.
| How Venus feels | Signs in the 7th (your Lagna) | What it tends to show |
|---|---|---|
| Strongest: own or exalted | Taurus (Scorpio), Libra (Aries), Pisces (Virgo) | Malavya yoga; a gracious partner and a comfortable married life |
| Friendly | Gemini (Sagittarius), Capricorn (Cancer), Aquarius (Leo) | Good companionship; for Leo Lagna Venus also rules the 10th, linking spouse and work |
| Neutral | Aries (Libra), Scorpio (Taurus), Sagittarius (Gemini) | For Libra and Taurus Lagnas this is the Lagna lord in the 7th: you give a great deal to the partner |
| Uneasy | Cancer (Capricorn), Leo (Aquarius) | Emotional or ego friction; yet Venus is the yogakaraka for both these Lagnas |
| Debilitated | Virgo (Pisces) | Critical or high expectations; look for cancellation through Mercury and Jupiter |
Notice the third and fourth rows. A sign label alone can mislead. For Capricorn and Aquarius Lagnas, Venus is the yogakaraka, the most helpful planet in the whole chart, so even in an uneasy sign its presence in the 7th often brings real support through the spouse.
In a man’s chart and in a woman’s chart
Traditional texts treat Venus as the significator of the wife in a man’s chart, and Jupiter as the significator of the husband in a woman’s chart. So for a man, Venus in the 7th puts the wife’s own planet in the wife’s own house, and the karaka debate applies most directly. For a woman, Venus in the 7th speaks more about the warmth and comfort of married life, while I read the husband through Jupiter as well. In both cases, Venus still shows how much pleasure and ease the marriage holds.
Malavya yoga in the 7th
When Venus sits in its own or exalted sign in a kendra, it forms Malavya yoga, one of the five Mahapurusha yogas. In the 7th it describes a refined partner, comfort, and a person others like to work with. Even so, I check the Navamsa before calling it. A Malavya Venus that falls into a weak D9 sign gives less than the birth chart promises.
What else I look at
- The 7th lord, which still governs the house even with Venus inside it.
- Mars or Saturn joining or aspecting Venus, which can add friction or delay.
- Jupiter’s aspect on the 7th, which tends to steady Venus.
- Venus in the D9, for the quality of married life over the years.
- Whether you are running a Venus period, explained on my Venus Mahadasha page.
Venus in the 7th is also a common reason two people feel strongly drawn to each other, and attraction is not the same as compatibility. If a match is on the table, reading both kundlis together gives a fuller view. For the wider picture of the house and its other planets, see my 7th house overview.
Venus describes the kind of marriage; the timing is a separate reading, set out on my marriage timing page.
Venus in the 7th and the south-east of the house
Your Venus reading settles the karaka debate for your chart and shows the quality of married life. Adding the plan of your home shows where that comfort is meant to live day to day: the south-east, Venus’s own zone, and the shared rooms where a couple spends its evenings.
Suppose Venus sits in Virgo, its sign of debilitation, in your 7th. I would look at whether the south-east is cramped, damp or used as a dumping corner, and suggest simple changes in colour, light and use, timed to your Venus periods. The ₹1,499 reading is the simple first step. If you would like both looked at in one 45-minute session, see my astro-vastu reading.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is Venus in the 7th house good for marriage?
Usually, yes. It brings attraction, affection and a wish to share life with someone. The caution is excess: high expectations or indulgence when Venus is weak or afflicted. In Taurus, Libra or Pisces it is among the better placements for married life.
Does Venus in the 7th house give a beautiful spouse?
Classical texts do link it with an attractive, well-groomed partner. I read it more broadly as someone with charm, taste and social grace. The sign on the 7th and the D9 add detail to how that shows.
What does karako bhava nashaya mean for Venus in the 7th?
It is a principle that a planet placed in the house it signifies can overdo that theme. For Venus in the 7th, it can show as idealising the partner. A strong, well-supported Venus rarely gives this result, so the sign and aspects matter most.
Does Venus in the 7th house mean more than one relationship?
Not by itself. It increases the wish for company and admiration. Multiple relationships are read only when several factors combine, such as an afflicted Venus with Rahu, a weak 7th lord and a supportive dasha.
Is Venus in the 7th good for business?
It is helpful for client-facing work, design, fashion, hospitality and anything that depends on liking and trust. Partnerships formed under this placement tend to be pleasant; agreements still need to be clear.
