Short answer: Griha pravesh muhurat 2027 starts after Makar Sankranti on 15 January, once Dhanu kharmas is over. Vasant Panchami on 11 February and Akshaya Tritiya on 8 or 9 May are the festival days families like most. House-warmings pause for Meena kharmas, about mid-March to mid-April, and through Chaturmas, then return after Dev Uthani Ekadashi in November. Your own day and hour come from the charts of the people moving in.
When you can move in during 2027
Most of my griha pravesh questions start with a builder’s handover letter. The keys come on a date that suits the builder, and the family then has to find a good day near it. Here is the year, so you can plan around possession.
- 15 January to about mid-March: open. A good stretch if your handover lands around the New Year.
- Mid-March to mid-April: Meena kharmas, when the Sun is in Pisces. Most families wait.
- Mid-April to early July: open, with Akshaya Tritiya in May as the busiest day for pandits.
- Chaturmas, roughly July to November: traditionally closed for entering a new home.
- Late November to mid-December: open again until Dhanu kharmas returns.

A festival day is not always your day
Ugadi matters to many Kannada and Telugu families in Bengaluru, and Akshaya Tritiya is seen as good for anything that should grow. The trouble is that a famous day gets crowded: the priest you trust may have four bookings, and the hour you get is whatever is left. Also, the tithi of Akshaya Tritiya spans two days in different places, so you need to know which date your city’s panchang uses. If the festival suits your chart, wonderful. If it does not, a quieter day a week later is often the better choice.
What I check in the panchang
- Nakshatra. I prefer the steady and gentle stars: Rohini, Mrigashira, Chitra, Anuradha, Revati and the three Uttaras. They suit a home you want to stay settled in.
- Tithi. I leave out the rikta tithis, the 4th, 9th and 14th, along with Amavasya.
- Weekday. Many families avoid Tuesday for entering a house. I follow your family custom here.
- Lagna. For the moment you step in, I like a fixed sign rising, such as Taurus, Leo, Scorpio or Aquarius, so the household does not keep shifting.
- Eclipse. The solar eclipse of 2 August 2027 is visible in India. It falls in Chaturmas, but I mention it because some families plan a small entry in that period.
Whose chart sets the date
The first chart I read is the owner’s, usually the person whose name is on the sale deed, or the head of the family who will live there. If a couple own the flat jointly, I check both. For that person I count tara bala from the birth star and chandra bala from the Moon sign, and I look at the period they are running. The 4th house is home in a chart, so I see whether its lord is supported that week.
Saturn moves into Aries on 3 June 2027. That shift changes sade sati and dhaiya for several Moon signs, and it is one reason I sometimes suggest moving in before June rather than after. Keys in Chaturmas, ceremony later
Possession dates do not respect the panchang. If your keys come in August, you have three reasonable choices. Hold the flat empty and do the interiors, then enter after Dev Uthani Ekadashi. Do a small, simple entry on a sound day with the full pooja later. Or, if rent pressure is real, move on the best day available and tell me, so I can choose the strongest hour inside a closed season. There is no single best month. February and the stretch from mid-April into June have the most open days. Within those, the right date is the one that suits the owner’s chart.
Can we do griha pravesh during kharmas?
Traditionally no. Dhanu kharmas ends around 14 January 2027 and Meena kharmas runs from about mid-March to mid-April. Most families wait for these to pass.
Is Ugadi a good day for griha pravesh?
Ugadi on 7 April is the new year here and many families love it. But it falls inside Meena kharmas, so I check your chart and your family’s custom before agreeing to it.
Whose birth details do you need?
The owner’s, and the head of the family’s if that is a different person. For joint owners, send both. Date, exact time and place of birth for each.
What does a griha pravesh date reading cost?
An astrology reading of one kundli is ₹1,499 for 45 minutes. If I need to read two or more charts for the date, the fee is on request. A home Vastu session for the flat is a separate ₹1,499.
