Vastu App or Vastu Expert? What an App Can’t See

There is a lot of noise about AI in Vastu Shastra right now. Apps score your home out of 100, chatbots tell you where to put the bed, and some consultants (me included) use software in their work. Some of this is useful. Some of it promises far more than it can deliver.

This is my honest view of what artificial intelligence can and can’t do in Vastu, how to judge an AI Vastu tool, and where a human consultant still matters.

What AI Can Do Well in Vastu

Much of a Vastu analysis is rule-based checking. Software is good at that kind of work. It can:

  • Map zones: divide a floor plan into the 16 Vastu zones once the north line is set, and show which room falls in which zone
  • Flag clashes: point out room-use conflicts, such as a bedroom in the fire zone or a kitchen in the water zone
  • Calculate a birth chart: work out planetary positions from a date, time and place of birth
  • Keep records: list each finding and remedy with the reason behind it, so nothing gets lost

All of this draws on the classical framework: the Vastu Purusha mandala, the grid that divides a building into directional zones, and the Pancha Bhuta (earth, water, fire, air and space). Software applies those rules quickly. It does not add new knowledge to them.

What AI Can’t Do in Vastu

This is the part most apps leave out.

  • It can’t see your site. A plan does not show the slope of the plot, what is next door, a road hitting the gate, or a compass reading taken next to a steel cupboard.
  • It can’t read your chart for you. Calculating planetary positions is easy. Deciding what your current period means for your home is judgement, and that takes an experienced astrologer.
  • It can’t weigh one flag against another. A plan can throw up a dozen “doshas”. Knowing which two actually matter is the real skill.
  • It doesn’t know your life. It can’t tell that a room is your child’s only study space, or that you are renting and can’t move the kitchen.

No AI replaces site judgement or chart reading. It can only make the groundwork faster.

Vastu Apps and Free AI Scores vs a Human Consultant

A free app or AI score is fine as a first look. It can tell you that your main door faces a certain direction or that the toilet sits in the north-east.

The limits show up quickly. Most apps apply one-size-fits-all directional rules. They usually ignore your birth chart and nakshatra, so a correction that suits one person is suggested to everyone. A low score can also cause worry for no good reason, because a number out of 100 does not tell you which problems are serious.

A consultant’s job is different. I look at the flags, read the chart, ask what is going wrong in your life, and then suggest the few changes that are worth making, in an order you can actually follow. Most of them need no demolition.

Can you trust a Vastu compass app?

Partly. The compass in your phone is a small magnetic sensor, and it is easy to throw off. In a Bangalore flat you are standing inside a frame of steel bars, close to a fridge, a TV and wiring in the walls. Two phones in the same room can disagree by 10 to 15 degrees, and that is enough to push a door from one zone into the next.

Before you believe the reading, do four things:

  • Calibrate the phone first, with the figure-of-eight movement most phones ask for.
  • Take the reading outside the main door or on an open balcony, away from grills, parked cars and the lift.
  • Read it from three spots and note the average.
  • Check it against the satellite view on a maps app. The edges of your building show you the real lie of the plot.

Even a clean reading only gives you a direction. The app can’t tell you where the centre of an odd-shaped flat sits, whether a cut corner matters for your family, or which of its ten warnings deserve your money first. That part is done on the plan, which is why I ask for a marked floor plan before every home Vastu consultation. My guide to the 16 Vastu zones shows how a plan is divided, and the most common slips I find in flats are in Vastu for apartments.

How to Judge an AI Vastu Tool

Before you trust an app or an “AI Vastu report”, ask these questions:

  • Does it ask how you took the north direction, or does it just assume?
  • Does it explain why a zone is flagged, or only give a score?
  • Does it use your birth details, or only the plan?
  • Does it push demolition or expensive products as the first answer?
  • Does a named, experienced person review the output before you act on it?
  • Does it say clearly what it can’t do?
  • What happens to your floor plan and personal data after you upload them?

If most answers are vague, treat the result as a rough guide and nothing more.

A question clients often ask me

“If software does the analysis, why do I need you?”

Software is fast at cross-checking zones and rules. It cannot see that your north-east is your child’s only study space, or that you cannot move the kitchen in a rented flat. I check every recommendation myself and fit it to your life. Saurabh

How I use software in my own consultations

I do use software, and I am open about where it sits. This is how a consultation with me runs:

  1. You send the floor plan with north marked, a compass photo at the main door, and birth details if you want the chart read too.
  2. The software maps the plan into the 16 zones and lays the chart over it. It saves me time on drawing, nothing more.
  3. I check every finding myself, against the plan and against what you tell me about the home.
  4. We talk for 45 minutes on a video call. You ask, I explain.
  5. You get a written report within 48 hours, with remedies in order of priority.

The software never decides a remedy. That part is mine, which is why I call it AI-assisted and checked by me. More on the steps in how a consultation works, or book a home Vastu consultation.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can an AI Vastu app replace a Vastu consultant?

No. An app can map zones and flag common clashes. It cannot see your site, read your birth chart in context or judge which problems matter most. Use it as a first look, not a final answer.

Are free online Vastu scores reliable?

They are a rough guide at best. Most apply general directional rules without your birth details, and a single score does not tell you which issues are serious. Check how the tool got its north reading before you rely on it.

Can AI read my birth chart for Vastu?

Software can calculate your chart. Reading it, and connecting your current period to the zones of your home, needs an experienced astrologer.

Does AlignAura use AI to decide remedies?

No. I use software for zone mapping and cross-checking. Saurabh Sen (that’s me: IIM Ahmedabad alumnus, over a decade of Vastu and Vedic astrology practice) reviews every finding and writes every remedy personally.

Which is the best Vastu app?

I don’t push one over another, because they share the same weak spot: a phone compass reading plus fixed rules. Use any of them to note directions, then get the plan looked at by a person before you spend money or move anything.

Is a Vastu compass app accurate inside a flat?

Often not. Steel in the walls and nearby appliances pull the needle. Calibrate the phone, take the reading outside or on a balcony, and compare it with a satellite map before you rely on it.
