Independent houses and layout plots
Coimbatore still has a strong habit of the independent house. Many families buy a plot in an approved layout, in areas like Saravanampatti, Vadavalli, Thudiyalur, Kovaipudur or along Avinashi Road, and build a ground-plus-one house over time. Apartments are growing too, especially near the IT parks, but I see more house plans from Coimbatore than from most cities.
That changes my order of work. For a house, the plot comes first: its shape, which road it faces, whether it is a corner, and how the land falls. Layout plots are usually regular, but corner and end plots in a new layout can be wider at one end. Then I look at where the sump and borewell are, because nearly every house here has both. A mild climate with its own pattern
Coimbatore is kinder than most Indian cities: not extreme in summer, breezy for much of the year, with the Western Ghats close by. The wind through the hills is a real feature of life here. In Vastu terms, the north-west is the zone of air and movement, and in many Coimbatore homes that side gets a lot of wind. I like to use it for ventilation, a guest room or a utility area, rather than block it. Rain is moderate, but I still ask where water drains off the plot, since a wet south-west is worth avoiding.

Frequently asked questions
Where should the sump and borewell be in a Coimbatore house?
Vastu prefers both in the north, east or north-east. If yours are already elsewhere, we do not dig them up; we plan remedies around them and keep that corner clean and dry.
Is an east-facing plot in a new layout worth the extra price?
East-facing plots are popular, but a north or west plot planned well can work just as well. My east-facing house guide covers what to check before paying more.
Can you plan Vastu for a house we are about to build?
Yes. Send the architect’s drawing before it is final. Placing the kitchen, master bedroom, stair and sump at the drawing stage saves cost and changes later.
Do you check textile or engineering units in Coimbatore?
Yes, industrial Vastu is available on request. The fee depends on the unit and is quoted after I see the layout.
Can the session be in Tamil?
No, I do not speak Tamil. I consult in English, Hindi and Bengali. Many Coimbatore families choose English, and I keep the explanation simple. A family member can translate for an elder if needed.
