Reading a planned city
Chandigarh is unusual. The sectors were planned as a grid, the house sizes are talked about in marlas and kanals, and many layouts repeat from house to house. That makes the city easier to read than most. It also creates a trap: people assume the map tells them the facing.
Check the compass, not the map
The sector roads are not laid exactly on true north, so a house that looks north-facing on the sector map can turn out to be north-east or north-west on a compass. That shift moves every zone in the house. So for any tricity home I insist on a real compass photo at the main door before I mark the grid. Kothis, government houses and tricity flats
Inside Chandigarh, I see two-storey kothis on sector plots, often with the ground floor and first floor used by different branches of a family, and a lot of government housing where you are not allowed to change the structure. Across the border in Mohali and Panchkula there are more sector houses, and in Zirakpur and New Chandigarh many families now live in high-rise flats. Government houses and rented flats get the same approach: no construction, only placement, colour and room use.
Winter sun and summer heat
Chandigarh has real winters, and the south sun in December and January is something every family values. Summers swing to dry heat. In Vastu terms, the south and west should stay heavier and more shaded, yet in winter people want south rooms for warmth. I balance that by keeping the heavy storage on the south-west wall while letting the living space use the south light. The Shivalik hills to the north are a common question; for your house, what counts is the slope and levels of your own plot, not the view.
From Chandigarh, I mostly get independent houses where the family can still change room use.

Frequently asked questions
Our Sector house looks north-facing but the compass says otherwise. Which do we follow?
Always the compass. Vastu works on actual direction, and in Chandigarh the sector grid does not sit exactly on north. Take the reading standing at the main door, away from metal and electronics.
We live in a government house. Can Vastu help if we cannot change anything?
Yes. Everything I suggest can be done with furniture, colour, lighting and how rooms are used. When you move to another house, the same approach works there too.
Two brothers live on two floors of one kothi. Is that one session or two?
Two sessions, one per floor, each at ₹1,499. We also look at the shared entrance and staircase, since they affect both families.
Can you check a plot in New Chandigarh or Mohali before purchase?

Do you take sessions in Punjabi?
No, I do not speak Punjabi. I consult in Hindi, English and Bengali. Most tricity families are at ease in Hindi or English, and we keep it simple.
