Mercury Retrograde 2027 (Budh Vakri 2027): Dates, Times and Effects

Short answer: Mercury goes retrograde three times in 2027. It turns back on 9 February at 11:06 pm IST in Aquarius and turns direct on 3 March at 6:02 pm in Capricorn. The second spell runs from 10 June, 11:44 pm, to 5 July, 1:10 am, all inside Gemini. The third starts on 7 October at 8:06 pm in Libra and ends on 28 October at 7:40 pm in Virgo. These are sidereal signs, the ones a Vedic panchang uses. Treat each spell, called Budh vakri, as a time to check, repair and finish, not as a reason to stop living.

Budh vakri 2027 dates and times

A station is a single moment, so the clock time is the same everywhere in India. If you live abroad, convert the IST time to your own zone; the date can move by a day for the US. The June spell ends just after midnight, so in practice Mercury goes direct on the night of 4 July. Looking ahead, the next turn comes on 24 January 2028 at 4:31 pm IST, in Capricorn.

Western columns will show other signs for the same dates: Pisces in February, Cancer in June and Scorpio in October. Nothing is wrong. The tropical zodiac they use runs about 24 degrees ahead of the sidereal one. My note on Vedic and Western astrology covers why.

What a backward Mercury means in Jyotish

Mercury never actually reverses. Seen from Earth, it seems to slow, stop and drift back for about three weeks, roughly three times a year. In Jyotish, Budh speaks for speech, trade, writing, numbers, study, contracts and younger siblings. A vakri graha is not counted weak. Classical texts give it extra strength of motion, so it works harder on whatever it already holds in your chart, and it tends to pull old matters back to the table.

The stations matter most. On the day Mercury stops, and a day either side, it barely moves, and mixed messages and small slips crowd in. The weeks in between are easier.

Each 2027 spell has its own flavour:

• February, Aquarius back to Capricorn. Both are Saturn’s signs. Office systems, approvals, government forms, salary and company paperwork come up for a second look.
• June, Gemini. Mercury’s own sign, so the theme is Mercury at its loudest: calls, sales, media, short trips, messages sent too fast.
• October, Libra back to Virgo. Libra brings agreements and partnerships. Virgo is where Mercury is exalted, so the spell ends on detail: accounts, records, daily routine, the fine print.

What to do and what to avoid

Should you cancel plans? Almost never. This is what I tell clients.

• Contracts. If a sale deed, job offer or lease has to be signed, sign it. Read it twice, have someone else read it once, and keep the drafts and emails. If you can choose the day, avoid the station dates in the table.
• Phones and laptops. Back up before the spell starts. Buying a device is fine; keep the bill, check the warranty card, and do not throw away the old one until the new one works.
• Travel. Leave extra time. Check the spelling of names on tickets, visa dates and hotel addresses. Save a screenshot of every booking.
• Conversations. Say the thing simply and confirm it in writing. A heated message can wait a night. This is also a good time to call back an old client or a friend you lost touch with.
• Good use of the weeks. Editing, revising, repairing, re-applying, filing what is pending, finishing a half-done course.

Mercury retrograde 2027 for each moon sign

Count from your moon sign, not your sun sign. The houses below follow the three spells in order: February, June, then October.

• Aries: 11th then 10th, 3rd, 7th then 6th. Work plans get revised early in the year; in October, read partnership terms carefully.
• Taurus: 10th then 9th, 2nd, 6th then 5th. June is about money talk within the family; keep savings decisions slow.
• Gemini: 9th then 8th, 1st, 5th then 4th. June sits on your own sign, the busiest of the three for you. Say less, write more down.
• Cancer: 8th then 7th, 12th, 4th then 3rd. February touches joint money and the spouse’s paperwork; June asks you to check travel and spending.
• Leo: 7th then 6th, 11th, 3rd then 2nd. Old contacts return in June; in October watch what you promise in writing.

• Aquarius: 1st then 12th, 5th, 9th then 8th. February starts on your sign. Expect second thoughts; give them a week before you act.
• Pisces: 12th then 11th, 4th, 8th then 7th. June is for the home and documents of a property; October for a partner’s money matters.

Budh vakri and the north of your home

In Vastu, Mercury holds the north. It is the side for talk, trade, cash coming in and new openings. I use these three spells as a reminder to look after that side, because the work suits a backward Mercury: clearing, mending and going back over things.

• Clear out old papers, dead chargers, broken phones and unused remotes from the north wall and its cupboards.
• Fix what is faulty there: a dripping tap, a fused bulb, a door that sticks.
• Keep it light. A heavy almirah on the north wall is something I usually ask people to shift, and these weeks are a good time to plan the move.
• Leave large building work in the north for after Mercury turns direct.
